New self-serve checkouts now in operation at Optus Stadium

Fans attending the stadium this AFL season will enjoy faster service times when grabbing snacks and drinks at Outlet 149 thanks to the introduction of new touchless self-checkout terminals.
In a Western Australian first, eight ‘Mashgin’ AI-powered point of sale terminals have been installed in the Mrs Mac’s Pie Shop on Level 1, one of the stadium’s busiest outlets. The terminals use AI-powered computer vision technology to recognise and ring up products from any angle. Fans simply place their items on the tray, spaced apart and then tap to pay. This is a permanent addition to outlet 149, with the roll out of the technology at other stadium outlets to be considered.
Optus Stadium CEO Mike McKenna said the new technology at outlet 149 is expected to result in fewer queues and faster service, enabling fans to get back to their seats faster.
“Putting our Fans First is at the heart of everything we do, which is why we’re keen to continue investigating how we can continue offering a superior fan experience. Fans visiting outlet 149 will be able to grab a snack or drink and pay in seconds which will mean they can get back to their seats faster than with a traditional cashier set-up,” Mr McKenna said.
More than 100 major league sports and entertainment stadiums and arenas in the United States already use the technology to speed up food and beverage checkout. Optus Stadium is the third Australian stadium to introduce the technology, following Adelaide Oval and Marvel Stadium in Melbourne.
